PLP Partners with Avalon Village

Avalon Village hosted Hood Camp this summer to share outdoor education and camping experience for children who live in Highland Park.

Founded by Shamayim ‘Shu’ Harris, a mother, a community activist and a former school administrator. Her dream of building an urban eco-village was inspired after the tragic loss of her son, Jakobi RA, who was killed by a hit and run driver in 2007 at the age of two.

Rather than fall into despair, Shu chose to heal and honor Jakobi’s memory by transforming blight to beauty and creating something wonderful for the people of Highland Park.  Peace, Love & Planet was honored to be invited to take part in this fun experience. Campers played Carbon Footprint to contemplate personal consumption and brainstormed solutions to lead an eco-friendly lifestyle. They also transformed t-shirts into reusable grocery bags.  You see, nurturing healthy habits can be all fun and games!
